Abraham’s Trust (Faith) is Tested:
God promised that Abraham would be a father of a great nation. This promise would become a difficult test in trust.
For the first seventy-five years of his life, Abraham was childless. This naturally caused him great distress. How can one be a father
if he doesn’t have a son? Abraham felt that he had maintained good stewardship and did all he could do to keep his covenant, but God
still had not delivered on his promise. Heavenly Father knew that fear and doubt were tugging at Abraham’s heart so he came before
him with words of assurance in saying, “Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.”
Genesis 15:1 God wanted to strengthen Abraham’s faith in the promise that he would be the
father of many descendents, so he had him look up and count the stars in the sky. The vast amount of stars was too great to count.
God reassured Abraham that his descendents would outnumber the stars. There was nothing Abraham could do but wait and place his trust in God.
