Temple Work of the Old Testament
The Sin Offering
Thunder and lightning were in magnificent display over Mt. Sinai. The Israelite people shuddered in terror as the
presence of God appeared in fantastic glory. The awesome voice of God thundered his demands. The people pleaded for Moses to represent
them before God. The very thought of coming before God caused them great fear. They knew without a doubt that they were not worthy enough
and would receive God’s wrath and punishment. God, in his great mercy, recognized that his people needed comfort and assurance. Therefore,
Heavenly Father instituted a system of sacrifices to restore their relationship and appease their guilt.
The Lord instituted a variety of offerings to communicate the covenant relationship he had with his people. One of
those offerings, the sin offering, was a blood sacrifice God designed to restore the covenant relationship between those who have sinned
(the Israelite people) and God.
