The Final Perfect Atoning Substitute:

The sin offering pointed people toward the fulfillment of the promise Heavenly Father made to provide a final atonement.  Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, was that final sin offering for all people of all time.  He was that perfect substitute used for the ultimate sin offering sacrifice.  Just like the sacrificial animals had to be outwardly perfect, “without blemish”,  Exodus 12:5.  Jesus was perfect.  On the cross, Jesus did not look very good on the outside, but he was perfect inwardly without blemish or sin.  Hebrews 7:26.

There were certain aspects of the Old Testament sin offering that were used to point toward the future of God fulfilling his promise.  The priest would sprinkle blood on the altar seven times to signify completeness.  Afterward, the fatty tissues were burned on the altar and the remaining parts of the animal were burned outside the gate of the camp.  Today there is a different altar for the sin offering.  That altar is the cross where Jesus Christ sacrificed himself and secured eternal salvation for all who believe.  His blood on the cross made all things complete.  By his blood, we are made holy.  Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross did what those repeated sacrifices could never do.
