The Ultimate Guilt Offering:
“He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities [guilt] … the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity
[guilt] of us all … when thou [LORD] make his soul an offering for sin [guilt].” Isaiah 53:5,6,10
The plan our Heavenly Father put together can be found in the words of the prophet Isaiah recorded above.
It is in these
words that believers can find comfort for their souls. It was the plan carried out by Christ Jesus. He suffered for our rebellion (“transgressions”)
and for our guilt (“iniquities”) by being “wounded”. Jesus was completely innocent, yet suffered for all our mistakes, poor judgments, iniquities
and bad habits. He substituted himself on the cross for us.
As a result of Jesus’ sacred work on our behalf, we can receive many blessings. One such blessing is peace.
We can never
earn peace with God or ease our guilt by following God’s law or attempting to perform sacred works for our benefit. All our valiant efforts and
good intentions cannot erase our errors. No human being can remove one sinful thought, word or action by suffering the punishment that is deserved.
Not even criminals can remove the guilt from their record by spending years in prison. They can only suffer the punishment they deserve.
