The New Testament TemplesDay of Atonement

Entering the Presence of Our Heavenly Father:

The inner room leading to the Most Holy Place of the temple had been sealed off to man.  Entrance into God’s Most Holy Place was impossible for unworthy men.  A veil separated man’s access to Heavenly Father because no man could ever be worthy enough.  God demanded that without the shedding of blood (death), there can be no forgiveness.  “But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people.”  Hebrews 9:7  All the blood that was shed in the animal sacrifices pointed toward the greatest sacrifice ever to be made -- the blood of God’s one and only Son.  Only the cleansing blood of Jesus allows people to live with Heavenly Father.  Just as the tabernacle needed to be cleansed before the Day of Atonement because it was used by dirty, unclean hearts, people need to be cleansed of all bad deeds, past and present, so as not to dirty the celestial kingdom.
