Eternal Life – No Guarantee:

It is a long and hard road to “work out one’s own salvation.  Gospel Principles page 123.  The effort extends to after death.

Ensign May 1989 p 20:  “Elder Joseph Fielding Smith offers this counsel: ‘Salvation does not come all at once, we are commanded to be perfect even as our Father in heaven is perfect. It will take us ages to accomplish this end, for there will be greater progress beyond the grave.’”

There is no guarantee of success. It will be on Judgment Day that each person will stand alone and be judged.

Ensign May 1989, P 10:  “Each of us must stand before our Redeemer alone and account for what we have done”

Gospel Principles page 296:  “[The individual] tells the story himself, and bears witness against himself … That record that is written by the man himself in the tablets of his own mind – that record that cannot lie – will in that day be unfolded before God and angels, and those who sit as judges”

Only if the person has met every condition and the effort is judged worthy enough, and the person’s spouse has also met these same conditions will eternal life be rewarded.
