Gifts Received & Gifts To Come:
In order to determine when Heavenly Father bestows eternal live it is critical to look at the tense used in each of these passages. For example
“hath” is past tense - it has already happened. The phrase “ye might” is future tense – it has not yet happened. And “being” is present tense – it is happening
at that time.
Paul writes concerning the subject of his prayer, the FUTURE GIFTS he asks of God, using the
future tense:
9... that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding
Paul writes concerning the objective of his prayer, the resulting FUTURE BENEFITS, using the
future tense:
10That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and
increasing in the knowledge of God;
11Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
Paul gives thanks for the CURRENT GIFTS the Colossians have already received using the
past tense:
12 ... hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
Paul concludes by describing additional CURRENT GIFTS of Heavenly Father and his Son using the
past tense and
the present tense:
13Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated
us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
14In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.
