The Pattern of the Christ:
When Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness, each of the three exchanges recorded show Jesus quoting scripture to give Satan the truth.
When
Satan deliberately misused scripture in an attempt to deceive Jesus into jumping from the pinnacle of the temple, Jesus did not pray to know whether Satan’s words
were true. Neither did Jesus pray to know whether he should jump. Instead Jesus used his Father’s sacred scripture to reveal what was true.
.
When the Sadducees tried to trip up Jesus with a trick question, Jesus again turned to scripture to
reveal the truth. Jesus showed great
wisdom in how he responded to the Sadducees. . Then he chastised the Sadducees saying their mistake was “not knowing the
scriptures” (verse29).
When Jesus joined two disciples who were confused about the meaning of Jesus’ life and death, Jesus used the scriptures to
explain everything to them.
. The Holy Spirit tells us “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded
unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself” (verse 27). He chastised them for being “slow of heart to believe
all that the prophets have spoken” {scripture} (verse 25). They later said Jesus “opened to us the scriptures” (verse 32).
