Three Conceivable Results:
Actually, when a person prays about the Book of Mormon there are three conceivable results: a feeling that the Holy Spirit has
“manifested the truth of it” (burning in the bosom), no reaction or feeling, and a feeling that the Holy Spirit has manifested the falsehood of it (an intense feeling of dread).
Each of these outcomes have been reported by different LDS members, ex-members and non-members, each of which having prayed
“with a sincere heart, with real intent”. How does one resolve the contradiction of these various responses?
Not Really a Question:
After close examination of the Moroni 10:4 passage it can be seen there
should be no contradictions. The passage allows for no result other than having the Book of Mormon’s truth manifested.
The passage does not say to pray to
see if it is true or not. It seems to be a subtle point; but this prayer is not asking God a question (Is it true or not?),
it is actually asking God to confirm a forgone conclusion (that it is true): “he will manifest the truth of it unto you”.
The question may be asked “Is this even a sincere prayer?”
