Heavenly Father points to His Holy Word as the source for divine persuasion:
Luke 16:31: And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will
they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
"Moses and the prophets" was a common expression at the time used to refer to the Old Testament scriptures.
"Moses"
referred to the first five books and "prophets" referred to the rest. See the footnotes in the LDS Bible for Luke 16:31.
Heavenly Father points to His Holy Word as the source for detecting false teachers:
Isaiah 8:19-20: And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits,
and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead? 20To the law and to the testimony:
if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
"The law and the testimony" was a common expression used during the Old Testament times to refer to the current scriptures.
"Law"
referred to the first five books and "testimony" referred to the rest. See the footnotes in the LDS Bible for Isaiah 8:20.
Romans 16:17: Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences
contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
Heavenly Father's Holy Word is the light used to gain understanding:
Psalm 119:130: The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
Heavenly Father commands us to search scripture to find the secret of eternal life:
John 5:39: Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
