In the Gem Shop Drawer "Breadth of God's
Commands" we witnessed a wide variety of commands, many of them
universal in nature (affecting every moment of our lives).
This Drawer contains Gems which display the 'Depth' of God's
Commands; that is, the degree to which God's Commands are to
influence our lives. Many people limit their view of sin as
something that is an obvious, premeditated, intentional and
willfully rebellious act against God. These Gems show that sin
is much more subtle, much more insidious than that. They
display the quality of Heavenly Father's desire for much more than
our outward actions.
LDS doctrine states that "you cannot be saved
in your sins" but that "you
can be saved from your sins"
(See True to the
Faith Page 151-152 under the definition for Sin).
This statement is often tied to the Pearl of Great Price passage:
Moses 6:57:
"Wherefore teach it unto your children, that all men, everywhere,
must repent, or they can in nowise inherent the kingdom of God, for
no unclean thing can dwell in his presence..." What
this means is that you must cleanse yourself of each sin by
following the LDS Process of Repentance in order to qualify for
Eternal Life.
As the Bible Gems pictured above are
presented, consider the prospect of being cleansed from each particular
sin identified. After all of these gems are presented we will return to the
principle that "no unclean thing" can dwell in the presence of
Heavenly Father.
