The Greatest Disciple?:
I had been the leader of Christ’s disciples.
All the others looked up to me. Often they waited for me to
speak for them when Jesus asked us a question. I considered
myself strong in faith, even invincible. Jesus had given me
the name Peter; that is Cephas, which means: the “Rock”.
How could I have fallen so far, so fast? How could I have
failed my Lord so miserably? It almost broke me. But I
get ahead of my story.
It
was Passover week. We
were all together; celebrating the Feast of the Unleavened Bread.
This is the feast that reminds us of the events surrounding our
forefathers’ rescue from Egypt. In particular, it reminds us
of how each family sacrificed a perfect lamb and spread its blood
above their door to protect themselves from the angel of death.
And it reminds us of the command that they make bread without yeast
so that they would be able to move quickly when Moses gave the word.
But the celebration of this feast was different.
